Daughter of a Canadian Nun

Exhibiting the Interior of Female Convents.

New York: Wm. A. Mercein, 1833 (1st edition)

Exceedingly rare first edition of this work by abolitionist and founder of the Protestant Reformation Society. He took issue with the Catholic church throughout his long career as a Protestant minister and activist. This novel, as were most contemporary stories about women in Roman Catholic convents, were manifestations of the virulent anti-Catholicism of the 1830's - 1850's in America.

Bound in brown boards with gilt stamped spine title. Frontis illustration of "Louise". 8" x 4.5". 244 pages.

Extremely rare - could not find another 1st edition listed online!
