Here is an EXQUISITE VINTAGE Fisher Price Zoo #916 playset (1984-85). This set is EXCEEDINGLY HARD TO FIND with ALL of its pieces---especially the 4 elusive food trays! Not only does this particular offering include the RARE food trays but it also features all of its original accessories and a NEAR MINT - MINT play base!
The Zoo play base itself is in SPECTACULAR condition! Check out my photos!!! All of the lithos are clean and intact and are free of any marks, tears, or rubs. The ONLY imperfections I can spot are:
1. Some slight bowing of the universal signs and gorilla lithos;
2. One, barely perceptible water stain (@ 1/2" L x 1/2" W) to the left of the hippo on the pond litho;
3. A couple of light water stains on the universal signs litho.
That's it! This is a MAGNIFICENT base!!!!
The Zoo's plastic surfaces are free of any chips, cracks, scuffs, abrasions, dings, or discolorations. There are a few, faint surface scratches on the "viewing stand" and under the gazebo but the color is still intact. All of the plastic surfaces possess their original, bright coloration. There is some light soiling and one, pin-head size black mark on the left upper edge of the viewing stand. I'm confident all of this will come off with a careful, Q-tip cleaning. This is ABSOLUTELY one of the FINEST ZOO BASES I've EVER encountered!
All of the moving parts work as designed (e.g. the hippo's mouth opens wide when the zoo tram rolls over the orange lever in the driveway, the lion moves forward out of his den, the seal swivels on its perch when the orange peg is manipulated etc.
Accompanying this TREMENDOUS base are the following accessories:
1 HTF orange gazebo/bird aviary (NEAR MINT-MINT);
1 HTF tree (MINTY MINT--ABSOLUTELY NO CHEWS!);
1 HTF silver gray hippo head that elevates up and down in the zoo pond when the zoo tram triggers the orange lever (MINT);
1 HTF aqua jeep (NEAR MINT-MINT);
1 HTF brown wagon/cart (NEAR MINT);
1 HTF aqua covered trolley car (EXC++-NEAR MINT--some slight yellowish discoloration of white canopy; hopefully this will come off during the cleaning process);
1 HTF blue elephant (NEAR MINT);
1 VHTF orange gorilla (MINTY MINT);
1 RARE yellow lion cub (EXC++--NEAR MINT--one tiny indentation on the cub's nose; this was probably caused by a child's tooth);
1 VHTF light blue mountain goat (MINTY MINT);
1 HTF light brown baby hippo (MINTY MINT);
1 RARE royal blue vulture (EXC++-NEAR MINT--several extraneous marks on vulture's head and wings; hopefully, these will come off during the cleaning process; due to the vulture's dark coloration, many of these are hard to spot);
1 RARE gray seal (NEAR MINT);
1 HTF black monkey (NEAR MINT-MINT---very light scratches on rear of piece; NOTE: the black monkey is included in this offering; due to the dark background employed during my photo shoot, he's hard to spot in some of my pictures);
1 caramel monkey (NEAR MINT-MINT--one teensy black spot on rear lower right leg; this may come off with cleaning; if it does, then this monkey will warrant a MINTY MINT rating);
1 HTF yellow macaw/parrot (NEAR MINT- MINT--teensy red mark on right beak; not sure if this will come off with cleaning but I'll give it a try);
1 HTF orange macaw/parrot (EXC++---litho on left side applied a little low at the factory; as a result, lower right hand corner of this litho has folded upwards; I will reglue this w/Rubber Cement so it won't lift any further; otherwise, the piece is in GREAT condition);
1 HTF lime green picnic table (EXC--light surface scratching on top of the table along with some deeper scratches on two of the bottom legs of the table);
2 VHTF lime green picnic benches (NEAR MINT -MINT);
1 RARE, blue circle food tray with litho (EXC-- a few light rubs on litho; otherwise in FABULOUS shape);
1 RARE, lime green oval food tray with litho (VG+---1/4" L x 1/8" W rub in center of litho along with some light soiling and a couple of 1/8" L scratches);
1 RARE, yellow square food tray with litho (MINTY MINT);
1 RARE, red triangle food tray with litho (VG+-VG++--several rubs on litho);
1 HTF dark green zoo keeper with tan hat (MINTY MINT);
1 RARE, blue bodied Dad w/heat stamped hair (NEAR MINT--pin-head size rub to right eye and some fading of left eyebrow);
1 VHTF, coral bodied Mom with blonde bun (MINTY MINT);
1 RARE, yellow bodied girl with rust sculpted hair (MINTY MINT); and
1 yellow bodied boy with yellow cap facing forward (EXC--one pin-head size, shallow indentation on left side of head; probably caused by some child's errant tooth; rest of piece is in MINT condition; NOTE: This was a variation that FP sometimes used in lieu of the orange boy w/red heat stamped hair or the orange boy w/yellow cap).
I haven't yet cleaned this base and its accessories but I will thoroughly Q-tip clean everything before it travels to its new owners. I spend a minimum of 1 -1 1/2 hours (and sometimes as much as 5 hours) cleaning each and every playset I sell (except for those offered in My Rough Room). My sets are IMMACULATE!
REMEMBER, this VINTAGE FP playset is NOT included in the recent FP recall of toys manufactured in China. This playset was manufactured in the good ole' U.S.A. in 1984-85!!!! It's 27 years young and still exemplifies FP's reputation for imaginative, durable toys.
Purchasers should refrain from allowing children under 3 years of age to play with these toys without adult supervision or to offer these toys to children who may be still mouthing their toys.
