Handbook of Clinical Endocrinology is usable, readable, portable, and affordable. It contains a tremendous amount of current, practical information that will be quickly appreciated by anyone caring for patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders. Relevant normal anatomy and physiology are clearly described in each chapter. Then, since patients ?rst present with problems, not diagnoses, disorders are generally discussed in a problem-oriented manner. Differential diagnoses for problems are accompanied by diagnostic algorithms and descriptions of disorders. A disorder with multiple possible manifestations is described most fully under the problem it is most likely to ?rst present. For example, gonadal dysgenesis (Turner?s syndrome) is described under short stature; MEN type I is discussed under hyperparathyroidism. Testing protocols and normal laboratory values are found throughout the text and in the extensive Appendix which expresses normal ranges in both conventional and international units. Treatment sections are especially detailed. Pertinent bibliographies are listed at the end of each chapter.
