Brand new factory sealed dvd presented in glorious B&W and its original full frame ratio. The top right corner of the cover has a portion of the shrinkwrap missing and a couple of scrunge tears in the cellophane on the bottom middle, but it is still obviously unopened. The case is undamaged.
Forerunner of 'Peyton Place' still retains its sweep of life in pre-WWI Midwestern town with the fates of many townsfolk intertwined. Childhood friends grow up with varying degrees of success, in a decidely macabre town. All are continually dependent on and inspired by Parris (Robert Cummings) a psychiatric doctor and genuine gentleman. It's a quaint turn-of-the-century small town of shady streets, swimming holes and the Sunday afternoon clip-clop of horse and buggy. But that peaceful exterior conceals human lives twisted by cruelty, murder and madness!
Warner brothers withheld the film for a year after its completion, in concern for its dark subject matter, but it received wide acclaim. Nominated for 3 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Shot completely within studio settings with excellent scenic design by William Cameron Menzies. Beautiful haunting musical score backs up the lush production. Many cast members worked against their normally typecast roles with unusual success. Notable, too, as Ronald Reagan's finest performance.
