Even though much is dated in these books: references to telephone "cords", transistor radios, cars with windows down, etc. the message really does cross generations. Even if  the children she refers to in her books may indeed now be grandparents themselves, it is amazing how much the behaviors are the same. 

Erma Louise Bombeck (née Fiste; 1927–1996) was an American humorist who achieved great popularity for her newspaper humor column describing suburban home life, syndicated from 1965 to 1996. She also published 15 books, most of which became bestsellers.  

William Aloysius "Bil" Keane (1922–2011) was an American cartoonist most notable for his work on the newspaper comic The Family Circus. It began in 1960 and continues in syndication, drawn by his son Jeff Keane.
