The bit is in clean lightly used preowned condition.  These amazing bits are getting harder and harder to find, and horsemen don't like to let them go once they have ridden their horse in one.   This is a Trammell four rein gag bit with a 5-1/2 inch wide by 1/2 inch diameter sweet iron mouthpiece with 6-1/4 inch long shanks.  The purchase measures 2-1/2 inches long with a slight gag effect for a 2.5 to one leverage ratio.  The slightly curved or forward mouth provides continuous communication with the horse for better control.  When used with 4 reins, the top rein is used to secure the head while it is being pulled around with one rein.  The sweet iron untreated black steel mouthpiece stimulates moisture and gives a sweet pleasant taste. The bit is in new, unused condition.

Applying the pressure slowly will communicate to the horse that light pressure on the mouth will be followed by more intense pressure on the corners of the mouth.  This bit should enhance lightness in the mouth and increase responsiveness to the rider's cues.  Trammell bits are MADE IN THE USA with quality construction that will last you a lifetime with proper care.

This vintage bit is no longer manufactured and is stamped with the original makers mark "Trammell" on the inside left cheek:  The original hand stamped Joe Trammell bits  "TRAMMELL" maker's marks were never struck clean.  Newer production bits have deep machine made stamps.
