Tapestry is in as-is unfaded
and fair
condition but does have a
number of moth
holes, large and small, as
can be seen in photos.
The bottom of this tapestry is fringed and the top has what appears to
be a rolled hand sewn hem. The entire tapestry is shown in the first
photo. This
Victorian era antique hand loom wool paisley piano
shawl tapestry
dates from the 1880s. It is made of intricately
hand
loomed woven wool done in strong vivid vibrant colors of red, orange,
blue, green, black and white. These paisley shawls were made in
Kashmir, Persia, India, Russia, USA and Europe in Scotland at Paisley
itself and were very popular during the mid to late
1800s with at least one being included in every better class
trousseau.
This stunning shawl has exquisite workmanship and detail
with a colorful decorative border on three
sides and fringe on the bottom side and measures about
63”
inches long and 63” inches wide and
weighs about 22 oz. This is a wonderful piece of paisley textile art!
