Fenistil gel contains an active ingredient that belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines.

Fenistil gel is used to relieve itching associated with skin reactions such as skin rashes, urticaria, insect bites, sunburn and superficial burns.

What FENISTIL Gel is used for
FENISTIL Gel reduces itching by blocking the action of histamine - a substance that is released in the body during an allergic reaction. Because FENISTIL Gel penetrates the skin well, itching and skin irritation decrease quickly within minutes. FENISTIL Gel also has a local anesthetic effect.

Do not use FENISTIL Gel
• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to dimethindene maleate or any of the other ingredients of FENISTIL Gel. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

If any of these apply to you, do not use FENISTIL Gel.

Warnings and precautions
Take special care with FENISTIL Gel
• Avoid prolonged sun exposure on large areas of the body to which the gel is applied.
• Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a week.
• Tell your doctor if you have very severe itching or extensive skin damage.
• In infants and young children, do not use FENISTIL Gel on large areas of skin, especially if it is injured or inflamed.

Other medicines and FENISTIL Gel
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Do not use FENISTIL Gel on large areas of skin during pregnancy and breast-feeding, especially if they are injured or inflamed. Do not apply gel to the nipples if you are breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines
FENISTIL Gel on the skin does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.

Important information about the excipients FENISTIL Gel contains:
• propylene glycol - may cause mild, localized skin irritation;
• benzapconium chloride - benzalkonium chloride may cause skin irritation.

You should not use this medicine on your breast if you are breast-feeding, as your baby may take it with you.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Some side effects are of unknown frequency (frequency cannot be determined from the available data).
• dry skin;
• burning sensation of the skin;
• itchy rash.
