- The Holy Year was first instituted by Pope Boniface in the Year 1300. Every twenty-five years it is proclaimed and inaugurated by the Pontiff, who performs the ceremony of opening the Holy Door under the portico of St. Peter's, while three Basilicas of Rome: St. Paul, St. John Lateran and St. Mary Major. The solemn inauguration takes place with a magnificent Papal Ceremony, attended by pilgrims from all the countries of the world.
- The ceremony ends with the most solemn papal benediction "Urbi Et Orbi" (To Rome and the world) Here recorded in the actual voice of His Holiness Pope Pius XII.
