This piece was done in an Art Nouveau style based on the works of Aphonse Mucha, one of the great Art Nouveau visionaries of the late 1800s.
When 1800s Japan finally opened to foreign trade, Japanese Ukiyo-e prints flooded Europe. The bold, graphic Japanese aesthetic inspired many European artists and sparked several new movements, including Art Nouveau.
This print is a tribute to an amazing game and also to the work of Aphonse Mucha.
