THIS WEEK: our cover picture is derived from an engraving
of a flagship by Pieter Bruegel (1530-1569) , from his series on men
of war.
Charles Elson, the artist responsible for the Dutchman set-
tings, worked from the original preliminary sketches of Robert
Edmond Jones, who was forced by illness to withdraw from the
assignment last summer. Mr. Elson is interviewed in this issue by
Lilian E. Foerster, herself a talented stage director.
We wish all our readers a happy Christmas, with at least one
