What Is A Center Shafted Putter?

As the name suggests, a center shafted putter connects the head to the shaft in the middle. This construction enables manufacturers to distribute the weight of the putter head to the heel and toe, which provides a stable putter head for a straight-back and through motion.

Who Should Use A Center Shafted Putter?

Golfweek’s David Dusek explains that a center shafted putter is most effective for players whose hands and eyes are in line with the ball at setup. The center shaft and minimal offset help these golfers achieve a more accurate line.

Review: "I've been having trouble hitting the 3-5 footers lately. I have good distance control and typically 2 putt almost every hole. Since I'm a mid level handicap 14'-16' ish, I find myself chipping on to the green leaving myself a lot of these length putts.

I've been tinkering with an old center shafted PLOP putter that I rescued from my folks garage. Looks like a brass block with two sound ports.

Putting around on my carpet I seem to be hitting my target from this distance a good amount. Does anyone have any experience with these putters? It's face balanced and my current gamer has some toe hang.

I've never gamed one, but I do remember there was a good deal of buzz (both pro and con, of course) about them when they came out 20-someting years ago (yeah, I know, I'm old). I was using a Bullseye at the time, and I recall thinking that the Plop was a (then) modern day take on the Bullseye. I remember the head as being shaped like a flat football - is that correct? Anyway, if you like it, and it feels right, there's certainly no reason not to game it."
