Quite showy plumes, and often the plumes are left on for the interesting look through fall. It thrives in mostly shade and a damp environment. Makes a great ground cover, especially in hard to please areas like under trees. The spikes of plume flowers rise high above the foliage creating a bold effect.  Tall growing plants are excellent background plant for shady, moist spots in the border or in a woodland, wild or native plant garden. Plant as a specimen or in groups along streams or water gardens. Can handle more sun in cooler climates and the further south more shade is needed. Does well with well draining rich soils. Native to USA. Seeds do best with cold stratification, but worth the time for a beautiful shade perennial.
