About the contributors:
-- Szymon Syrkus was a Polish architect, he was married to Helena Syrkus,
who was an editor of Athens Charter during the 1930s. He was involved
with the Thumbnail for Congrès Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne Congrès
Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne which was focused on landscape, urban
and industrial design. Syrkus was responsible for rebuilding many
prominent buildings after WWII. He was Jewish.
-- Jane Heap (November 1, 1883 – June 18, 1964) was an American
publisher and a significant figure in the development and promotion of
literary modernism.
-- Josef Frank (15 July 1885 – 8 January 1967) was an Austrian-born
architect, artist, and designer who adopted Swedish citizenship in the
latter half of his life. Together with Oskar Strnad, he created the Vienna
School of Architecture, and its concept of Modern houses, housing and
interiors.
-- André Lurçat (August 27, 1894 – July 11, 1970) was a French
modernist architect, landscape architect, furniture designer, city planner,
and founding member of CIAM. He was active in the rebuilding in French
cities after World War II. He was the brother of visual artist Jean Lurçat.
-- Hugh Macomber Ferriss (July 12, 1889 – January 28, 1962) was an
American architect, illustrator, and poet. He was associated with exploring
the psychological condition of modern urban life, a common cultural enquiry
of the first decades of the twentieth century. After his death a colleague
said he 'influenced my generation of architects' more than any other man."
Ferriss also influenced popular culture, for example Gotham City (the
setting for Batman) and Kerry Conran's Sky Captain and the World of
Tomorrow.
