Toby Peters is not your typical California detective -- he is not PHILIP MARLOWE, the brooding creation of RAYMOND CHANDLER; nor is he DASHIELL HAMMETT's all-seeing, all-knowing SAM SPADE; he is not LEW ARCHER, the downbeat invention of ROSS MACDONALD; nor is he similar to any of the hundred or so other private detectives that haunt the big cities and small towns of California.  Unlike the hard-boiled detectives who wander "down these mean streets," Toby is, at best -- well, "scrambled."  Toby Peters is a consistently down-on-his-luck private detective in 1940s Los Angeles, who rents a small side office from undoubtedly one of the most PAINFUL dentists in California; and who lives in a boarding house run by a very hard of hearing landlady who is under the mistaken belief that Toby is in the pest extermination business; and whose best friend is one of the Munchkin "Little People" from "THE WIZARD OF OZ" film.  And Toby's brother is a policeman -- who hates Toby.  But Toby's private detective business is so unorthodox, that it attracts the cream of Hollywood's talented actors, who don't want their private problems exposed to the press, or to the police -- so they call upon Toby, as a last resort.  What possible could go wrong -- right?!?
