Dame's Rocket, look to the bright pink/purple flowers blooming from May to August. Dame's Rocket leaves are slightly hairy, oblong, with large teeth (sharp edges). Its stems range from 2-4 feet in length.
Direct sow seed outdoors any time after the average last spring frost date and up to eight weeks before the average first frost date in the fall. Scatter seeds on top of moist soil. They require light to germinate, so do not cover them.
Dame's Rocket (Hesperis matronalis), also known as dame's violet and mother-of-the-evening, was introduced as an ornamental around the time of European settlement. It continues to be widely used as an ornamental and can be found throughout North America.
Dame's rocket has been used medicinally to induce sweating, promote urination, and loosen a cough, but no scientific evidence confirms its effectiveness.
