Walter Pitkin was born in East Hartford Connecticut in 1808 and began working as a silversmith in 1820. He partnered with John O Pitkin and later with CC Norton. Their factory was destroyed by a fire in 1880 and Pitkin died in 1891. CC Norton shows a birthdate of 1820 but no other information beyond 1880.
This coin silver spoon is 8 inches long, weighs 29.8 grams and has a monogram that might be “AMJ” though we are not sure. Spoon is in very good condition for its age (140 years +). A small ding in the side of the bowl but nothing that affects the integrity of the spoon. Would be a great display for those collecting Connecticut silversmiths.
