This CD was a tribute to the pioneering work of Factory Records which produced such bands as Joy Division, New Order and Orchestral Manuoeuvres in the Dark. The title refers, of course, to the monumental Joy Division song Love Will Tear Us Apart. The first selection is Sparklehorse's Shade and Honey, which Mark Linkous wrote for Alessandro Nivola to sing in the 2003 movie Laurel Canyon. Jim Reid (next) is lead singer and founding member of The Jesus and Mary Chain. I'm Stranded was specially recorded for MOJO. Little Girl Blue by Nina Simone is from 1958, and arose from the Rodgers and Hamilton melody and the popular carol Good King Wenceslas. Other highlights include: Elliot Smith's haunting Twilight, Galaxie 500's Sorry, and Townes Van Zandt & Willie Nelson's Marie. Liner notes show a small photo of the album that the cut was taken from plus all info on availability. A sad but lofty collection.
