Mayor of Vicksburg,Mississippi E.W.Wallin (Eric William Wallin) signed letter petioning for a Confederate soldier Frederick "Albus" maybe Albert? of the Texas Regiment that was captured by Union forces during the seige of Vicksburg. While in prison as a POW, the soldier contacted rheumatism which has now disabled him to work, requesting charity to survive.
This is really a fascinating letter that indicates this Texas soldier played an instrumental role defending
the city from May 18 - Jul 4, 1863.
