An American artist and illustrator
most noted for her paintings of young
children. In the early 1900's she was one
of the best-known magazine and book
illustrators in the U.S. 

She also illustrated popular 
children's books including a notable
1907 edition of 
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland!   

Bessie wrote this about "Love Is Blind:
The grown folks say my other dolls
Are prettier and better dressed. 
They simply cannot understand
Why I love you best.
They say you're downright homely
That you're broken and your old.
They say you're stuffed with sawdust
But I know your heart is gold.
