The founder, Josiah Wedgwood (1730-1795), known as "the father of British potters", was born in Burslem, Staffordshire. Himself, for example, turns out the formulae for those precious materials that become symbols of its manufacture: the Queen's Ware (1762), the black basalt (1768) and Jasper (1774).
