FIRST ISSUE Billon etradrachm (25mm, 11.59 g). Struck 251 AD. Seleucis and Pieria, Antioch mint.
Obverse: AYTOK K Γ OYIB TPEB ΓAΛΛOC CEB. Translation:
Emperor Gaius Vibius Trebonianus Gallus Augustus. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left (typically right facing) seen from three quarters frontally, the pteryges--the protective leather epaulets--visible on both shoulders~reinforcing his military image.
Reverse: ΔHMAΡX EΞOΥCIAC SC. Translation:
Tribunician Power, By decree of the Senate. Eagle standing left, head turned right, holding wreath in beak; Z between legs.
Very Rare! Only 4 listed in Prieur database. Ref. Prieur 654. Extremely Fine but for a few pits on obverse--especially nice reverse--in better condition than Prieur plate coin!
