Ann Maxie Everett December 4, 1939 - March 2, 2021, was born in Harlan County, Kentucky, and her childhood roots were tied to the Kentucky coal mining area. Ann graduated from Bell County High School in 1957 and attended Georgetown, Morehead and the University of Kentucky, and received a Bachelor of Science from Lincoln Memorial University in 1964. She later earned a master’s degree from Auburn University.
About the painting:
In 1893-94, the Four Seasons Hotel built trails and bridle paths across the ridge toward Tiprell, a small community about two miles south of Cumberland Gap, TN. Near one of these bridle paths, they found several sulphur springs. The Hotel, having advertised mineral water, felt this would be a good way to supplement the artificial mineral spring.
The Hotel Company built a very attractive stone springhouse in which to collect the water from the seven springs. At the suggestion of Earl Hobson Smith, the LMU Class of 1936 chose to move the springhouse to the campus as their class project.
In the Summer 1975, Ann Maxie Everett conducted an art workshop on campus and painted the iconic Springhouse.
