Which type of Yoga Mat is best for me There are three type of exercise mats, PVC, NBR and TPE.
PVC exercise mats are the most common and least expensive. They hold their shape well, making them durable and dependable. They are sticky , which helps them stay in place on the floor, and provide a non-slip grip to prevent sliding. They are also lightweight, making them great for travel. PVC yoga mats are not typically as eco-friendly as other materials. We don t sell PVC mats.
NBR yoga mats is a type of synthetic rubber that is water-resistant and tends to be thicker, and therefore less stable in standing poses. Its high-density nature makes it the most comfortable in terms of padding and giving cushion between you and the floor. It may stretch slightly during some poses, or leave imprints temporarily, but goes back to its shape afterwards. NBR mats are popular with fitness enthusiasts and yoga / pilates practitioners.
We sell NBR extra thick mats (1/2" thick), which are great for use on hard floors and users who need a low-maintenance yoga mat.
TPE is a more earth-friendly rubber because it is a recyclable material. Closed-cell TPE is waterproof, making it easy to clean and more durable than open cell, which absorbs water and sweat. Closed-cell TPE fitness mats are not ideal for hot yoga due to their recyclable nature, but they can be covered by a moisture-absorbing mat towel. Good Quality TPE mats are thinner than NBR and are gaining popularity. TPE exercise mats are a little pricier than the other forms of mats but well worth the price.
We sell TPE mats (6mm). They are textured for a non-slip grip, making them a great choice for yoga and other fitness oriented workouts. A good quality TPE mat is denser and thus heavier than other mats even though it will be thinner than others. That gives it stability and durability. You may pay a few dollars extra but it s a good investment in an exercise mat that is going to last you many years. |
