Magnolia Hills~ When William R. McAlpin died in 1855 at his plantation Magnolia Hills, he left over 1,000 acres of land near Grand Gulf to his heirs, including sons John R. and D. V. McAlpin. The home, begun as a cabin, eventually had three wings. Property plundered by Union troops during the war.
