A long range, the 11Mazatials, builds up north and south to the summit, and is visible as a landmark for many miles.

"ON CANYON LAKE" BY HARRY VRO-MAN. High cliffs, burnished in the sun, watch over the cool, blue waters of Canyon Lake. This lake, formed by Mormon Flat Dam, is one of a series of lakes on the Salt River where water is stored to irrigate fertile farm lands in the Salt River Valley. The lake is approximately 47 miles from Phoenix and is reached by scenic and historic Apache Trail.
