Ossendowski is remembered as a Polish writer, explorer, university professor, and anticommunist political activist. He is known for his books about Lenin and the Russian Civil War in which he participated. During the period between WWI & WWII, his international fame increased with the translation of his international travels and harsh criticism of communist regimes.
After the communists took control of Poland, his original notes and all found copies of his books were burned.

Hardcover has black cloth boards with gold lettering & designs on front and spine in original yellow DJ. Jacket in protective plastic cover. Frontis photograph of author has reproduced signature. End-pages have maps showing routes of the expeditions. Interior is tight, clean and unmarked. Page-edges opposite spine are deckled. Age appropriate patina.
