19th Century Antique Chinese Woven Bamboo and Rattan Storage Chest
Purchased from Horsepools in Hong Kong in 1998.
The COA and receipt shown in the photos is for reference only and will not be included with the sale of this chest.
This rather large trunk, made from woven bamboo strips, would probably have been used for storing clothes or household linen.
With carrying handles on each side it may also have functioned as an early suitcase. The trunk is reinforced with split bamboo around the bottom, inside the lid and on each corner.
Unusual bronze hardware add to the character of this functional piece.
Measures 25 3/4" wide, 19 1/2" deep and 24 1/2" tall.
The trunk weighs 26 pounds.
