This is a lovely vintage heavy brass or brass finish tea strainer that has a great old polished patina with dark areas from age. It has a perforated bowl for straining tea leaves or tea bags. It was placed over a cup to strain the tea leaves from the teapot so they would not get into the teacup. It has a decorative open filigree or pierced top. It measures approximately 6 ¼ inches long and 2 ¼ inches wide at the bowl. The bowl is close to ¾ of an inch deep.
This belonged to my Mother, she was from England and loved her tea. She had several tea pots and strainers. This strainer is most likely from India, but there are no maker marks. There is discoloration of the metal and an aged patina; I have not tried to polish this. Please look at the enlarged photographs as they are part of the description and show the condition much better than I can describe.
The strainer would look great in a country kitchen. It is a nice display piece for the counter or shelf leaning in a corner, the brass will really stand out. It is perfect for entertaining in style for an afternoon tea party.
