Norman Rockwell Figurine "Springtime 1933" ~ Saturday Evening Post 04/08/1933
Norman
Rockwell was one of the most noted artists in American history, and
his works graced the covers of the Saturday Evening Post magazine for
47 years. First
hired to illustrate a series of children’s books when he was 16,
Rockwell was then hired as the art director of “Boys’ Life,”
the official magazine of the Boy Scouts of America. Six years later,
the “Saturday Evening Post,” the era’s most prestigious
magazine, bought their first cover from him. For almost five decades,
he created 321 “Post” covers, which eventually became his
trademark. Many of his paintings depicted common people doing common
things and captured the hearts of many people across the years, and
some have been crafted into figurines, porcelain bells, canvas
prints, and other collectible pieces.
This particular piece is a figurine that was inspired by the Saturday Evening Post cover dated April 8, 1933. It depicts a young boy and his dog on their way to a fishing hole. He's wearing his rolled up britches that are held up by a pair of suspenders, and carrying his hat, scarf, and fishing pole and standing still, staring upward. Although it isn't obvious in the figurine, the original painting on the magazine cover shows an angel with the boy and she appears to be whispering something into his left ear, possibly telling him where the fish are biting. Rich with color and full of intricate detail, this classic figurine is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, or other signs of wear. It needs a new home, however, and it can be on your collector shelf in just a few short days. The overall measurements are 6"H x 3"W x 2"D. Customer satisfaction is our number one priority.
