Divided back, Kodak stampbox, unused, excellent condition. The deadliest event of the Klondike gold rush occurred on April 3, 1898, between Sheep Camp and the Scales on the Chilkoot Trail. Numerous snow slides took place on that day. Another slide the following day took the lives of two others. Altogether over 65 lives were probably lost. The Chilkoot Trail, was the most famous route taken by prospectors and would be miners who made their way to the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon. It is a 33 mile (53 kilometer) trail through the Coast Mountains that leads from Dyea, Alaska, U.S.A. to Bennett, British Columbia, Canada. The trail passes over the historical Chilkoot Pass. It is a National Historic Site in Canada and part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park in the United States.
