STILL SEALED! Clifford T. Ward - Mantle Pieces. Famous Charisma FC-6065 stereo LP record album. Please see below for additional biographical information on Clifford T. Ward, known to his fans as CTW. Released 1974. Clifford Thomas Ward (February 10, 1944, Stourport, Worcestershire, December 18, 2001), was an English singer/songwriter, who originally taught English before resigning his job in order to concentrate on music. His first solo album, Singer Songwriter, was released in 1972 on Dandelion Records, a label formed by disc jockey John Peel, before it went into liquidation. Signing a new contract with Charisma Records, he had a UK Top 10 hit in 1973 with the haunting single Gaye, following it up with healthy sales for the album Home Thoughts From Abroad. His success was mostly in Britain and he had another Top 40 hit at the end of the year with Scullery. Though subsequent singles, notably No More Rock'n'Roll, Jigsaw Girl, and Ocean of Love were much loved by BBC radio presenters and programmers, he never made the UK charts again. The Best Is Yet To Come also enjoyed success when covered by Justin Hayward, and his songs were also recorded by Cliff Richard, Jack Jones, Art Garfunkel, and Judy Collins. He was compared to Paul McCartney by reviewers, and his songs have strong melodies and concise original lyrics. He was unusual for a pop star as fans who turned up at his home were usually invited in for a talk. It was said that he would have had more commercial success but he disliked touring and public appearances. He aroused strong loyalty in his fans and his records still sell well. In 1984 he was diagnosed as having multiple sclerosis. He continued to record and write songs living at home, cared for by his wife Pat. In 1994 he recorded his eleventh and what would be his last new album, Julia And Other New Stories, crawling on all fours into his home-based recording studio to finish it. At around the same time a stage musical, Shattered World, was produced as a tribute to him, based on his life and his battle against MS. Half the songs were Cliff's own, and half were numbers written by others about him. Condition: Record is sealed, unplayed, and in mint condition. Cover is near mint, with small factory notch.
