Crown of Creation 'Crown Of Creation is a rich and varied collection showing off the different talents of the main songwriters. Among the many memorable moments are Grace Slick's beautiful vocal on "Lather," the band's sensitive cover version of David Crosby's "Triad," and Jorma Kaukonen's stunning wah-wah solo on "If You Feel." Add to this the intense lyrics (such as the drug-themed "Greasy Heart"), Marty Balin and Paul Kantner's consistently strong vocals throughout, and Jack Casady's remarkable dexterity on bass. This is most certainly the Airplane's Revolver...' 11 tracks and 39 minutes, with all tracks playing with no problems. On RCA, BMG imprint, catalogue number 4058-2-R 1968 album in more recent CD format. Tracklisting - 1. Lather next up... Bless It's Pointed Little Head 'These 1968 live recordings from the Filmore East and West are the definitive live document of San Francisco's premier psychedelic group. 1968 was prime time for the Airplane, as the instrumental interplay between Kantner, Casady and Kaukonen had really begun to gel. So too had the interaction between lead vocalists Grace Slick and Marty Balin reached near-telepathic heights, and it can all be heard here. From the mind-melting proto-acid-rock of "Somebody to Love" to ribald, bluesy brashness of "Plastic Fantastic Lover," this is the Airplane in full flight. '...Pointed Head' also makes it plain that the early Airplane had a special way with cover tunes. Folk god Fred Neil's "Other Side of This Life" gets a furiously rocking revision, and Donovan's "Fat Angel" is stretched out to encompass some wonderfully trippy jamming. Bless It's Pointed Little Head is a candid but flattering photo of this seminal American band...' 12 tracks and 53 minutes, with all tracks playing with no problems. On RCA, catalogue number 4133-2-R Digital Remaster 1969 album in more recent CD format. Tracklisting - 1. Clergy ...finally... Jefferson Airplane Live Unique Italian 'unofficial' release. A mix of 7 tracks purportedly taken from the Monterey Pop Festival, June 17th 1967...and followed by 5 tracks taken from uncredited US TV performances during December 1967, hours of fun trying to track down the programs and sources awaits the next owner... Both are comparatively rough and ready recordings, don't expect anything too polished. Includes an awesome version of Wooden Ships...simply outstanding... However, please note that the disc has various issues....two tracks during the live set skip, XX and the disc has CD 'bronzing', typical of a number of Italian Optical Media Storage (Opti.Me.S) manufacture discs, so rip it, get it in the hard drive and preserve that bad boy for posterity... There is one noticeable surface mark, a scratch, at about the point of the 2nd 3rd tacks,no doubt responsible for the two tracks that skip. However, the Monterey live set is readily available, so at least the real rarities, the TV tracks are still ok and offer 'no problem playback'... Originally 12 tracks and 50 minutes, now more like 10 and 43 minutes. On DV More Record, catalogue number CDDV 5507 1991 album in CD format. Tracklisting -
