THE RIVERMAN by Stewart Edward White

Grosset & Dunlap, 1912

Condition: VG+ in  VG- dust jacket

This well-known novel set in the Michigan woods about a man's fight against a river is here published in an early reprint edition.  (The 1912 date is determined by a brief Christmas inscription on the ffep.)  The text is accompanied by 13 full-page illustrations by N.C. Wyeth and Clarence F. Underwood. (As a bonus, a 1912-era Christmas label & sticker are laid in at the front.) This copy includes the original dust jacket, which has edge wear, a moderate back cover edge chip and some staining and smudging; nonetheless, unusually well preserved for its age.  The book has been protected through the years by the jacket, with only slightly bent cover corners, some rubbing and slight staining; the front cover paste-on illustration is still complete and in decent shape, the spine is not faded, the binding is solid.  The pages are somewhat toned, but otherwise in nice condition.  An early printing of this classic and a scarce example of a 110-year-old pictorial dust jacket.
