Antique pair of Victorian Edwardian sterling 925 lorgnette/opera glasses with ornate handle, hallmarked with a crowned Fleur De Lis in a horseshoe shape cartouche.
These are spring loaded so they fold up neatly to half their size and they open with a push button on the handle.
They would have originally been worn on a chain or chatelaine. The handle and the frame of the lenses has delicate detailed engraving.
Dimensions: 4 " inches from end to end when they are open, the handle is 3" inches long.
The lenses are clear and have no chips or scratches,and the spring works fine.
They are marked 925 on the nose piece and also with the Fleur De Lis in two places the nose and the ring at the bottom of the handle.The mark it was used Paris but also In Hanau Germany.
Background: Lorgnette are hand held spectacles (eyeglasses) that were fashionable during the Victorian and Edwardian periods (third quarter of the 1800's to 1920)
