This is a lovely Mexican brooch, pin or pendant. It is marked on the back but you can barely read the letters, it appears to read “Mexico”. I don’t know what the silver content is, although it looks like Sterling, it has NOT been tested. This classic medallion design has an Aztec labyrinth or geometric pattern of thin, delicate wire silver inlay channel work in the raised center made from what I think is Turquoise crushed stones inlaid in a mosaic pattern. There are four dangling rain drops or teardrops, which are also stone inlaid hanging from the main part of the brooch. There are additional openings along the edge, where extra teardrops could be added. It has a lovely rope or scalloped style border of loops and twisted silver in a flower petal style frame. It has a loop or hidden bail on the back so it can be worn as a pendant on a necklace chain if desired. It has a safety clasp as well. This is most likely from the 1970s.
The pin is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The entire inlay is intact. I did not polish it as many people prefer the patina that only comes with age. Depending on your own taste, I will leave any polishing up to you; you can keep it in the same condition with its original patina or polish it. The top circle portion measures 1 1/8 inches in diameter and with the tear shaped drops or dangles it is 1 ¾ inches tall. It weighs .20 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 5.67 grams. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.
This is a wonderful example of Mexican artistry to add to your collection. It will look lovely for an elegant evening out, or for a day of shopping wearing your favorite pair of jeans.
