This is a great looking chunky vintage necklace with the original Woolworth's Tag still attached. The F.W. Woolworth Company was a retail store that was one of the most successful five-and-dime stores. The chain began in 1878 and went out of business in 1997. The price on the tag back when it was originally purchased was $3.19, an affordable necklace for the typical housewife who liked style and enjoyed costume jewelry. The necklace consists of round, saucer and square double stepped pyramid beads in a rich ivory cream color. There are goldtone flat and round spacer beads between the beads. This necklace is most likely from the 1950s or 1960s.
It is in excellent vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. I don't believe my Mother ever wore it. It was in the drawer with the tag still attached. It measures approximately 25 inches in length and closes with a spring ring closure.
This would be a great necklace for all occasions, perfect with that little black dress or your favorite pair of jeans. I have not been able to find another one like it in all my searches, quite unique and a real attention getter. It would make a great addition to your collection of vintage costume jewelry.
