Vintage original 30 x 40 in. British poster for the classic 1920's sci-fi masterpiece, METROPOLIS, released in 1927 by Ufa and directed by Fritz Lang. In a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son (Gustav Frohlich) of the city's mastermind (Alfred Abel) falls in love with a working class prophet (Brigitte Helm) who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.
This poster was issued in 2010 upon the film's blu-ray release by Eureka in the United Kingdom of a then-current restoration of this amazing film. The image features the immediately-recognizable face of the Maria (as "The Machine Man" or the "Bad Maria"), portrayed by Brigitte Helm, which dominates the center of the design, along with statues of the Seven Deadly Sins at the left and a scene of one of the city's below-ground workers whipping the others into a frenzy, both of which are dominated by the famed futuristic cityscape in the top half of the poster. Unrestored and rolled as originally issued, this vintage original poster is in fine+ condition with a 20 in. slightly diagonal crease along the left edge and random signs of tiny wear on various portions of the edges. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws.
This poster will be shipped rolled in a sturdy tube to prevent damage while in transit.
