Thoughtful drama based on Truman Capote's memoirs covering his boyhood and the eccentricities of small town Southern life in the '30s and '40s where he was raised. Narrated by Boyd Gaines, teenaged Collin Fenwick (Edward Furlong) is sent to live with his maiden aunts, artistic, impractical Dolly (Piper Laurie) and shrewd, hard buisinesswoman Verena (Sissy Spacek).
Charlie Cool's (Walter Matthau) the retired judge who's sweet on Dolly, Morris Ritz (Jack Lemon) is a shady Chicago entrepreneur with plans for Verena's money, and there are various opinionated townspeople with stories to tell as well. Screen nostalgia directed by Matthau's son Charles who appears in the film as a customer in Roddy McDowell's barber shop.
