For your consideration is a Robert Clibbon Limited Edition 6 of 75 Signed by Artist "Portfolio" Color Etching Framed & Matted Picture. This picture is in excellent condition and the frame is in very good condition. Back of frame is board taped to the back of the frame. Wiring on back ready for hanging. Comes from a smoke free home. This picture framed measures framed 27 1/2" high x 27" wide x 1 1/4" depth. Robert Clibbon, a largely self-taught artist, developed his unique figurative style during a five-year stay in Europe ending in the early seventies. His drawings and watercolors of world have been exhibited in many leading galleries, notably, one-man shows at the Ivan Spence Gallery in Ibiza, Spain and the Lieve Hemel Gallerie in Amsterdam. Working alongside printmakers at the Pratt Graphics Center in Manhattan, the artist expanded his creative range finding ways to translate his romantic style into large etchings of rich and colorful detail. His work matches much fine drawing with deeply textured aquatints and soft-ground impressions from nature to create  unique and warm surrealism. Developing this medium the over the years, Robert operates his own printmaking studio and summer gallery in Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod. Framed in a Oak frame with glass insert. Back is board wired ready for hanging. The technique of etching: The "original" of this etching is a copper plate whose lines and tones are etched through coverings of etching ground, dipping it in baths of strong acid. It can take weeks or months to complete the plate. The finished plate is spread with oil based etching ink, which is then gradually wiped away with tarlatan and newsprint, leaving ink in the acid-gouged lines. On the bed of the etching press, moist etching paper is carefully placed over the freshly-inked plate. The high pressure of the press acts to squeeze the ink onto the paper, embossing the image in reverse. When the full edition of prints is pulled, the plate is cancelled so that no further impressions can be made. I found one of these in the artist's gallery, however the title was named Street Ladies.
