Alexander Yevseyevich Galkin (born in 1921) graduated from the music school at the Leningrad Conservatoire. During the great patriotic war the young musician fought at the front in the ranks of the Leningrad defenders, being wounded in 1944. Despite all these burdens the boy was a success at the entering exams at the Leningrad State Conservatoire, where he studied then in the contrabass class. Since 1950 Alexander Galkin teaches at the Rostropovich Music School. Among his disciples there are laureates, mature pedagogues and performers. Music to dramatic performances is one more passion of Alexander Galkin, who devoted 35 years to the Leningrad Gorky Bolshoy Drama Theatre. Either a miniature or the gorgeous Concerto for contrabass and orchestra are filled with dramatic effect, thus demonstrating Galkinâ?s adherence to Sergei Kusevitsky.Contents:F. Veracini. LARGO.
