Silver Plate India Kutch Large Tray Footed 19” X 16” Palm Tree & Bird Motif. This has been a fun find and we here at Uniquitees have learned a bit about Kutch Silver/Silverplate items. Based on photos sent to several experts in the field, we are comfortable determining that this is an example of Kutch Silverplate. Unfortunately not by one of the masters and of course is unsigned. The theme is Palm leaves and birds. The birds are so expertly done that unless you are looking for them, they don’t jump out at you. Once you see them, you should start to see all of them. This tray is 19x16 excluding the handles which add another 2.5 inches to each side. Speaking of the handles, we believe they look like snakes. The tray is footed and appears silver soldered. The tray weighs just over 5 pounds and was probably used as part of a tea set. The sides of the tray are pierced. On the back, it was suggested we confirm plate or silver using 18K acid (as opposed to filing into the tray itself). The acid test revealed probably brass or copper or some mixture of both. See photos and you will see the test spot underneath about the size of a dime. May not have been the smartest thing to do but we needed to confirm metal as another result might have cased a big difference in the ultimate price. We have polished much of the tray but there is more to do. We will leave that for winning buyer. Please feel free to ask questions and we will do our best to provide the most accurate answers we can Will ship USPS Priority with tracking to winning buyer. |
