Item description
THE FABULOUS CLIPJOINT
by Fredric [William] Brown.
New York: E.P. Dutton Company, Inc., 1947.
First edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement to the copyright page, 1947 to the title page, $2.50 to the jacket's flap.
Winner of the Edgar Award.
The prolific short story writer's first novel and the first of seven mysteries featuring Ed Hunter and his uncle 'Am' Ambrose, a carnival man and former private detective, who pairs up with Ed in this first episode to find Ed's father's murderer.
A hardboiled mystery classic, set in the mean streets of Chicago, and filled with tough characters.
Brown sharpened his writing teeth for the pulps, with science fiction and mysteries, and became highly lauded, for ingenious plots, humor, satire, creativity, great writing, and had numerous works adapted to film and TV.
Lightly rubbed to the lower spine edge and lower corner tips, else near fine in waxed sky-blue linen with high-collared, low-pulled hat wearing man's profile in gray to the front cover, dulled amber titles to the spine; in an about very good dust jacket that is produced slightly too tall for the book, with crease-crimps to the spine panel and front flap fold, upper shelf-edges show tears, chips and clear tape reinforcing, short tears and rubs to the tape reinforced lower spine edge, and to the lower corner tips.
