By Lin Tai-yi.

First edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement and HC860 date code to the copyright page, $4.50 to the jacket's flap.
The highly acclaimed Chinese-American author and daughter of Lin Yutang, lived in Beijing until age 10, then grew up and received her higher education in the U.S., taught Chinese at Yale, married and lived in Hong Kong for over twenty years, and moved back to Washington D.C.
Tai-yi draws on her experiences living China, listening to citizens' memories, and on her extensive education for this well-depicted, cultural and historical novel of two sisters from post WWII through the communists' takeover and turmoil in China.
Fine, square and tight in rich lilac linen with violet embossed lilac leaves to the front cover and with gilt embossed titles to the spine, deckle page fore-edges; in a Miriam Woods designed near fine dust jacket with a nick to the front panel's upper edge, and minor crimps to the upper and lower spine edges.
The dust jacket will be placed in a clear, removable protective sleeve after scanning for this entry.
