Item description
BROWNING'S WOMEN
by Mary E. Burt
Introduction by Edward Everett Hall.
Chicago: Charles H. Kerr Company, 1887.
First edition.
1887 date printed to the title page.
A fascinating study of women employed in Browning's poetry with types and roles of women examined, including females who are mothers, brave, constant, lost, intellectual, avenging, lyrical, complex, and more.
Hairline crack, but still holding firmly, to the front inner hinge, former owner's vintage bookplate to the inside front cover, fold-crease to upper corner tip of the front end-paper, pages starting to age-tone as expected, rubbing to the upper and lower spine edges, several pages roughly opened at the fore-edges, else very good in faintly soiled polished deep-blue linen with gilt embossed titles to the front cover and to the spine, upper page edges gilt; no dust jacket.
Small octavo; 225 pages; plus introduction and preface.
