MARY TIFF MAKES ELEGANT PRINTS by Mary Carroll Nelson. This California printmaker combines techniques and materials to create
witty, elegant prints. For example, she may combine etching and screen printing to produce a print on gold foil mounted on a
handmade paper or an etching paper. Tift's working procedures are documented in thIs article.
TREVOR SOUTHEY: IMAGES AND IDEAS by Trevor Southey. In his own words, Southey, who now lives in Utah, describes his
development as an artist after arriving in this country from his native Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). The artist explains how his Mormon
faith, his teaching experiences, and his deep feelings about his fellowman have shaped his work.
A CONVERSATION WITH HOWARD A. CURTIS by Charles Movalli. "I'm not an outdoor painter," says this Gloucester, Massachusetts,
artist. "I walk and look, trying to absorb the essence of the rocks, sky, and sea on a particular day. In this article, Curtis talks
further about working from mental images.
THE WATERCOLOR PAGE: BETTY LYNCH. This Texas watercolorist, who has traveled around the world recording colorful scenes,
gives a step-by-step demonstration of her procedures for completing a painting.
ROSWELL WEIDNER: PAINTING IN THE PINE BARRENS by William P. Scott. The New Jersey Pine Barrens serves as the focus of Roswell
Weidner's Monet-like pastel paintings. The artist rows out to the middle of the marshy area and records his response to the colors,
