Email through for more information. MADLYNE MURRAY (1911-1998): Born in Texas on Jan. 9, 1911, Murray studied in Dallas with Albert Jarvis, Margaret Baker, William Lester, and Marjorie Cummings. By 1950 she had moved to southern California and established a studio/home in Twentynine Palms. While active with the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs, she made painting forays into the La Quinta canyon and the surrounding desert. It was from here, in these arid landscapes that Madlyne drew her inspirations. Her use of color and light create an atmospheric accuracy, as though you knew the exact time of day, and weather conditions depicted in each of her works. At times, she shows elements of the great American Western artists Charles Marion Russell and Maynard Dixon. Yet the majority of Madlyne's works did not include human subjects, and this likely spoke volumes about her artist perspective.
