John was born in San Angelo, Texas, raised in Montgomery, New York and lives in Malibu, California. His first band was The Concepts and later worked with several bands until joining what would become The Lost Souls on Bang Records. Two of which formed a band with two players from The Undertakers. That band was Lomax Alliance. They were managed by Brian Epstein, met the Beatles several times including a visit to Abbey Road while they were recording Sgt. Pepper. Lomax Alliance consisted of Jackie Lomax, Bugs Pemberton (both from The Undertakers, Liverpool) and John Cannon, Tom Caccetta-Peters (both from The Lost Souls, New York City). Eventually Jackie went with Apple Records and the three of us came back to the States and formed a band that changed its name three times: One, Rain, and finally The Gypsy Wizards Band.
