I do not know the history of it. Many of the items from this purchase turned out to be new items that were kept as spares. This unit appears to be new out of the box with some light scuffs. It is also marked, "Fast Coupling 2 1/2B". It is about 12" in overall length. One side of this coupling is marked 2 1/2B FHUB". The other side actually looks like it has been machined to a larger size and it has etched into the metal, "2.8728" (see second picture). I am not able to test it. It only comes with what is shown in the pictures.
