WATERCOLOR - ABOUT THE ARTIST: George Campbell Tinning Art
is highly collectable and is exhibited in many Canadian Art Galleries.
He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1910. George Tinning went for
his art training in the Eliot O'Hara Watercolor School, Maine (1938);
and the Art Students’ League of New York (1939). He then settled in
Montreal, Canada in 1939. From 1942 to 1948, he won the prestigious
Jessie Dow Prize award for watercolors from the Montreal Museum of Fine
Arts ( Note: The Jessie Dow Prize : The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, at
their annual Spring Exhibitions, awarded artists the Jessie Dow Prize
from 1908-1965. This award was given for excellence of work in oil and
watercolor. It is considered the most prestigious Canadian art award.
This benchmark prize serves as a valuable guide to collectors who seek
quality and value in Canadian art. Some of the Canadian artists who won
this award: Bell-Smith; Brymner; B. des Clayes; Gagnon; A.Y. Jackson; F.
M. Knowles; J.W. Morrice; Palmer; Pilot; W.G. Roberts; A. Robinson;
Suzor-Côte; G.C. Tinning. etc .) From 1943-1946 George Campbell Tinning
served in the Canadian Army as an official war artist (WWII). In 1953 he
became an Associate of the Royal
Canadian
Academy (ARCA); in 1954 member of the Canadian Society of Painters in
Water Colors (CSPWC); and in 1970 full member of the Royal Canadian
Academy (RCA). George Campbell Tinning's best paintings were in
watercolor. He died in Montreal on February 28, 1996. Many of his
watercolors, close to 500 works, are part of the collections of the
following establishments: National Art Gallery, Ottawa Museum of Art,
Joliette Canada National Archives, Ottawa Canadian War Museum, Ottawa
Montreal Museum of Fine Art, Montreal The Winnipeg Art Gallery The
Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa Many other pieces of his art work are
in the collections of corporations and individual collectors worldwide.

New York World’s Fair, NYC 1942 – Vancouver Art Gallery Walter Klinkhoff
Gallery, Montreal 1939-1954 – Montreal Museum of Fine Arts 1971 –
